Understanding Asian Cultures

Mahendra Gokal also known as Metro,  has been a Toastmaster , Master of Ceremonies and wedding Celebrant at many functions – especially Asian weddings.

He knows their cultures and wedding ceremonies, from Hindu,  Muslim and  Sikh and also speaks Gujarati, Hindi and a good understanding of Punjabi and Urdu and is able to co-ordinate with whoever is performing the religious ceremony or wedding reception.

Asian weddings are always flamboyant affairs.

Ultimately he co-ordinates the whole function with the photographers, video personnel, banqueting managers the DJ or live bands;  introducing the VIP’s, the speakers, cake cutting, toast to the bride and bridegroom, in the time honoured fashion, always keeping to a preset time table – where possible – and adhering to it.

He introduces the person officiating at the religious wedding and will explain what will be transpiring throughout the ceremony both in English and the languages (mentioned above) if required.

The Photo Shoot

The photographic session for family and friends takes place usually after the wedding ceremony is complete, which does take up a lot of time and Metro ensures that it is done very systematically calling the names from a pre-arranged list by both sides, so there is no confusion between the bride’s family, grooms family and their guests when they are asked to have their photos taken with the newly married couple.

He is in total charge of the smooth running of the whole ceremony from start to finish.

A professional toastmaster wears ceremonial clothes (most noticeably a red tail coat) thus adding to the pomp and splendor of any wedding. Toastmasters are also experts on wedding etiquette and protocol and Metro will ensure that the members of your bridal party, who have roles to fulfill during the reception, do so in the right order and without embarrassment.
